Where am I? || Portugal – Albufeira

This post is so long overdue but at the same time just right! It’s been 2 weeks since I got back from Portugal! My Tan has faded, I’m beginning to long for another holiday and the only thing I can think of is how fab Portugal was.

So instead of day dreaming alone and reminiscing by myself, I decided it was about time I shared my thoughts and experience of Portugal with you! This year wasn’t actually the first time I’d been to Portugal. In 2014, I visited the same area with my friend, Channon, and it was just as wonderful! I guess I loved my first holiday in Portugal so much that I just had to make a repeat trip with my Brother this year. So let’s jump right into it with details of each day of my holiday!

Day 1: Arrival Day

When we arrived at Portugal, we were greeted by the most friendly and ‘coolest’ Taxi driver ever! We had booked our airport transfer via the hotel we stayed at as it’s usually much cheaper to book it that way – Plus you’ll be sure the hotel is completely aware of your arrival! We drove for about an hour from Faro airport to Albufeira, Algarve and although the sights were very beautiful and the weather was perfect, all I could think of was getting some food and water into my system! Earlier that day, we had taken a long bus ride to Victoria coach station, took a coach at 3:30 am to Stanstead airport, had breakfast at 5:30am and we arrived in Portugal at 12pm – So we were pretty hungry!

It was also so HOT! – From the plane I could smell the heat and although it was only about 21 degrees celsius, compared to the UK, that’s oven temperature!

We got to the hotel, checked in, settled down into our room, had a shower, put on some clothes that screamed “WE’RE ON HOLIDAY!” and then we headed out to grab a bite!

However, before we ventured away from the hotel’s grounds, I asked my brother to take a few pictures of me for my first outfit post of spring and after about 30 minutes, we were done and began on our search for a place to eat. Most of the restaurants seemed to be closed at that time of the day which was quite surprising as bars were open… just no where to eat. Luckily we found a small restaurant with a lunch deal of 4 courses for €9.95 and you know how much I love a bargain! So we decided to have lunch there.

The rest of our day was spent settling in and booking activities for the next few days but above all, I was so excited to feel the sun on my skin and to breathe in some fresh air!

Day 2 : Water Sports!

Day 2 for me the best day of my holiday! Like fish to water, I couldn’t wait head down to the beach and engage in all activities we had planned. I felt like a little dare devil, thinking about the activities I was about to take part in and to be honest, I still think I’m a ‘Badass’ #lol. Weeks before, I had contacted a water sports company, Ski Molhado, which was based 5 minutes from our hotel and right beside  the beach! – Talk about perfect location. They informed me about a group activity deal they had which meant we could participate in 3 different sports which usually cost up €120 for only €62! We decided we’ll make the best use of our money and opted for the most exciting options and so we chose Parasailing, Jet biking and a UFO ride!

We Parasailed and Jet biked in the early hours of the afternoon, then sat by the beach, had lunch by the beach and then went for our last activity.

I loved all 3 activities, but I must add that I was pretty scared riding the jet bike against the waves and drove as slow as I could without risking my life! #lol. My brother on the other hand didn’t care that I was screaming at the top of my voice for him to slow down while he went at almost 50km/hr in the middle of the ocean but the rush of Adrenaline was definitely worth it!

Day 3 : Boat Cruise Day!

My brother and I already knew that this day was going to be the coldest day during our time in Portugal. So we opted to do something a bit more relaxing – hence the boat cruise. The cruise cost us about €45 Euros each which also included VIP access to the top deck of the boat where the Captain was!

We set sail at about 2:30pm with a group of other people, to explore the coastline of Algarve and the cruise was meant to give us a glimpse of the hidden caves along the coast with the possibility of seeing some dolphins and swimming in the ocean. Little did we know that the ocean had different plans in mind as no dolphins showed up and it was too cold to swim.

Anyways, there was a lot of history behind each cave, how they formed, the constant battle between inhabitants of the regions close to the coast and the sea to keep it from  ‘overflowing’ onto the land, the rare species of birds living in the caves ( Like the peregrine falcon! ^_^), but most importantly, I was able to learn something about myself … I get Sea sick! I’d never been on a boat before and although I did love how calming the scenery it was, at some point I took a step back and laid down on the sunbeds to prevent myself from throwing up.

We left for the UK the day after, got to the airport quite early and bought a few souvenirs there! We arrived in the UK at about 4 pm and thank God it was a little sunny. It would have made the depression of leaving the sun worse!

Overall, Portugal was a fantastic place to take a short break. The people were very friendly, it wasn’t ridiculously expensive and most of all, I’ve built some wonderful memories with my brother!:p

Anyone got any holidays planned this year? ^_^
