Look Book || Hey Mom! – Styling Mom Jeans

Unflattering. Unfashionable. Too Loose. Too Big. Not Stylish! Words that have been used to describe this staple piece of mine – Mom Jeans.

Characterised by the strange way they make your bum look extremely flat, the excess fabric around your crotch and completely different from the skinny jeans we’re all used to, there couldn’t be anything more fashionable than Mom Jeans.

Agreed – It might not be for everyone and it might not suit everyone. However, for those who dare to wear a pair of Mom jeans, the styling possibilities are endless! From a casual errand day look to a chic ensemble like the one I’m spotting in this post – If you can think it, you can style it.

That said, it is very important to pair your pieces carefully when wearing Mom jeans as they can quickly go from stylish to tacky with the wrong accessory or top! For me, as minimal as possible is the theme with them – Plain solid colours with minimal jewelry. A fitted top to compliment the baggy nature of the jeans and one with a high neckline for a more edgy look. That’s my ideal Mom jeans ensemble.

Confession – I haven’t always been a fan of mom jeans myself, but I decided to try on a pair a few weeks ago and I feel in love with them instantly! Yes, they may be extremely big. Yes, they might add a few pounds to my bottom are, but there’s something about them. They have this mature lady feel to them – opposite to the slender girlie look skinny jeans offer and maybe that’s why I love them!

Other styling possibilities! – Why not try out a less fitted top but
tucked in? or a crop top, crop sweatshirt or cropped boxy top?  Yes – Cropped or tucked in is the way to go!
Stuck on shoes? – Try out a pair of staple court heels or brogues?

What do you think?
